Operation Big Book Bag

This initiative is designed to support our mission to make a difference for school-aged children facing educational challenges in local homeless shelters and extended-care hospitals and facilities. Through this program, our chapter collects and donates crucial educational materials, equipment, and school supplies to enhance their learning experience.

Nu Lambda Sigma Alumnae Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., is ensuring that no child misses their potential due to resource limitations, making a significant impact by providing essential school supplies to underprivileged children in Ghana.

Our goals are to:

  • Provide quick and easy access to reference materials and other study aids and tools that will help students in their educational endeavors.

  • Equip students with the means to complete their homework assignments, keeping them current and up-to-date.

  • Assist shelters, youth centers, schools, and hospitals in meeting the educational needs of children and young adults housed at their facilities.

Our recent donation of school supplies was awarded to the children at Potter's Village in Dodowa, Ghana. Potter's Village is a registered charitable organization that provides a safe haven and home for over 130 children rescued from abuse and abandonment in Ghana.

The Operation Big Book Bag initiative, led by our chapter, ensures that no child misses out on their potential due to a lack of resources. Our chapter is committed to making a substantial impact by providing school essentials, laptops, and backpacks to underprivileged children across Ghana, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Nigeria, and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

We have also donated school supplies, donated paint to refresh Abetifi Presbyterian Schools in Abetifi, Kwahu. In the coming months, with the support of our National Organization, NLS will be fitting ICT Centers/Labs to teach STEAM Education at the Potters Village and Nyame Bekyere, Eastern Region communities. As well as donate additional school supplies to foster learning.
