Message FROM oUR chapter BASILEUS
As the first President (Basileus) of the first Alumnae Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., chartered on the African continent, I am delighted to extend my warmest greetings to you. This chapter represents more than a local branch of our illustrious organization; it embodies our legacy. The resounding call of our ancestors to uphold a sacred vow was unmistakable - it resonates in "Sankofa" (pronounced SAHN-koh-fah), a word from the Twi language of Ghana, meaning "to retrieve" — to return, to fetch, to seek, and take. I have come home to fulfill a duty alongside a network of extraordinary, brilliant women who share my values and ideologies. Together, we aim to nurture and fortify the bonds of solidarity among the descendants of African people. Our sisterhood persists in leading and serving our communities with unwavering excellence. Greater Service, Greater Progress.

I wholeheartedly believe in our mission to elevate the quality of life for women and their families in the United States and globally through community service, civil, and social action. Our objective is to make significant strides in the areas of education, health awareness, and leadership development. Through collaboration and resource-sharing, we can make a substantial impact on our community and beyond. This vibrant, bold, and dynamic chapter embodies the core principles of Pan-Africanism for black women. Building upon the longstanding tradition of fostering unity among indigenous and diaspora Africans, our concept harks back to a shared goal dating back to the Atlantic slave trade. However, this movement extends beyond continental Africans, resonating with the African diaspora in the Americas and Europe.

Our website is designed to serve as a wellspring of information, resources, and motivation. Here, you will find updates on our latest projects, events, and activities. I encourage you to explore various opportunities for involvement, whether through volunteering, partnering with us on community service projects, or engaging in leadership development programs for young girls and women. Let us join forces to construct a brighter, more inclusive future, fueled by the power of self-care as a conduit for healing and transformation.

Our sisterhood remains ignited by togetherness and inspired by 101 years of service.
Akwaaba (Welcome) to the West African Poodles website.

Yours in Service Leadership,
